Kiefhuck
2015
My project Kiefhuck is based on a legend from the North Sea about a woman in a red skirt, who guards a treasure in the mudflat. The legend is linked to the lost island Rungholt which was flooded in the 14th century. For the video work I set up myself as the woman in the red skirt, who appears, disappears and leaves unknown traces.
Creating a mysterious atmosphere that is fragmentarily decipherable and working with the tension between visibility and abeyance.
According to legend, Rungholt sank due to its inhabitants’ greed.
Therefore I decided to work with the high-grade materials silk and porcelain.
I worked with silk fabrics which I put into mud flats/salt water to conserve traces of the lost island Rungholt and to leave my own traces by using ink.
